Junior's Halloween Shoot

This gig kicked off at about 8.30 in the morning on the 27th October, which I don’t think the Linda, John or Lawrence realise, is far too early for monsters too come out to do archery. Halloween is the 31st! But we all still got up and most of us came with some spectacular costumes, and that was just the adults. Linda was dressed as a very convincing witch, John as a hippy devil and Lawrence surprised us all by simply turning up in his lovely grim-reaper Sunday Best, which he bragged all morning about as he tends to wear it around his house because he says it is ‘comfortable’. He also went into very great detail on the very fine material used and the overall quality of his torn up garment. (Well, actually, he didn’t really, but everyone could tell he wanted to go into that kind of small talk!)

Monster!

Linda - dressed as a witch!

Dan was dressed as the hippy devil’s son, Peter as a Ring Wraith from Lord of the Rings – it was actually very good, well done Peter’s mum - Big George as a deformed Were-Wolf wearing a hoody, Jacob as a skull-faced man, and myself as a, well, Ninja ghost I suppose? Don’t let anyone tell you they don’t exist!

Very Scary Costumes!

The Halloween shoot was also accompanied by a dimly lit archery range echoing with frightening Halloween sound effects. Enough to chill the blood of any archer! But in amongst the weirdly dressed people and spooky range, we had a game to play!

Ghost in the Range!

On each target face was a web with four spiders. There were also four bats dripping with red pen, I mean, blood. Each spider was worth 40 points, and their legs 20-30 points. The bats on the other hand were worth -50. To make things even scarier, if you shot the blood, your score would be halved!!! Absolutely terrifying! Especially when you have deathly music playing and Lawrence trying to chop your arm off with his axe.

The game proved to be very good and everyone seem either happy because they were scoring high, or frustrated because they kept hitting the bats. It proved to be very enjoyable, emphasised by the very suiting music and costumes.

In the end, Max walked away with the Highest Actual Score of 330. Whereas Peter got the prize for 2nd lowest score, which was -50. And then there was Nick, who achieved the score of -140 and was given the prize for the Lowest Actual Score. Well done to all for sharing out your sweets with everyone! Oh, and for getting those very good scores. A big thank you goes to Linda for organising and preparing the Halloween shoot for us. That was absolutely fantastic and was very different to anything we have done before. A perfect Halloween shoot!

BUT NO, IT WAS NOT OVER!!! Before the prizes for the competition were announced, Lawrence had brought with him every child’s most loved toy. The mighty Glowstick! And so, he went about attaching them to everyone’s arrow. We then all marched our way into the haunted range, where we all stood side by side with our bows. We nocked our glowrows (arrows with glowsticks) drew our bows, turned off the lights, and watched as the bright colours flashed down to the end of the range. I stood there and thought to myself, no one in the World could ever get bored of this! It is a great sight to see and a pleasure to have a go at! (Please note that everything was kept very safe and controlled and glowstick firing should not be attempted outside of the club and without strict supervision……because it is dangerous…a bit) So thank you very much Lawrence for bringing those in for us!

Felicity also bought in a REAL pumpkin for us to carve a face into ready for her to use for Halloween. Instead, we hung it from a target and shot it. Sorry, but it was just too tempting! All the juniors had a great time shooting at it. I don’t think anyone in the history of the club has ever shot at a fruit before, so thank you very much for that experience and we look forward to next fruit you bring in for us!

A very nice finish to the Halloween shoot.

And thanks to Jacob for bringing in your sweetie box with that dead hand in it that is actually alive! Clever isn’t it! So thank you for that.

Sweeties...

So once again, that is the end of another great Halloween shoot and junior event. We would all like to thank those who helped towards the shoot and for making it a great day. And again, special thanks go to Linda for preparing and organising the whole event.

Don’t forget that we still have the Christmas Do and The Junior Christmas Do which will be great fun as always, so look out for that dates of those joyous events!

See you all soon.
